Computer Education & Rural Communications Project History
Operation Tech Start will work to upgrade the economic status of disadvantaged communities through the spread of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) within the central region of Tabora, Tanzania – an area often overlooked by international aid due to its poor infrastructure and inaccessibility. Project History
Holly Rich is the founder behind the Operation Tech Start. The idea to create the project was borne out of a six-month experience volunteering in Tabora, Tanzania with an after-school program. While volunteering, Holly tutored orphans and vulnerable children as well assisted in establishing operations policies for the organization. But it was during this time that she discovered other areas (schools, clinics, farms) where her expertise from working 10+ years in the technology sector could be more useful and effective – to reach more people in need and have greater positive impact. Prior to her trip to Africa, Holly worked in New York as an online executive for Fortune 500 media companies including NBC Universal (nbbc) and Viacom (MTV.com), where she shaped advertising campaigns for video broadband networks and traditional websites. She also has extensive experience in the fast-paced environment of start-ups while consulting for Barnes&Noble.com and various email marketing organizations. Over the years, Holly has developed a network of talented technology professionals, from CEOs to CTOs who have proved instrumental in establishing a strong base of advisors and over-qualified volunteers for Operation Tech Start. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Holly now lives in Brooklyn, New York with her cat, a laptop, and a high speed wireless connection. She has a B.A. in English Composition from DePauw University and a Professional Certificate in Graphic Design from New York University.
